Not enough minerals
I’ve not been busy enough but still getting a bit done.
Doing a lot of 3d printing, painting and still a bit of coding too. Finance bot is getting some love too.

I flashed my phone today, got rid of one set of spyware and probably installed another one. Works well though and I am pretty happy to continue to buy really cheap phones and then just flash the latest upstream android on them.
Also, wrote some go and started writing some time series analysis code.
Sometimes it is really a battle to find time.
Today, I didn’t get much done but I got something good done. I did some data analysis and found a pattern for finding areas where everyone speeds from GPS data. Cunning and not being released because I am not a nark.
Today I did a very basic app in Go with walk. I have never done much in Go before other than toy projects so another toy project was just what I needed. I picked go because it had to be a Windows function and writing it in just a scripting language (like DOS or powershell) while possible would have been painful and writing it in python, or whatnot would have needed too much support. I’ve built cross platform windows tools in python before, it is days of messing around to get everything fitting together.
Go was easy, it did the job and with google and the docs I could have a reasonably tricky script done in a few hours.
The other thing I did was try to flash my phone. I didn’t get too far on that because I had to unlock the bootloader which is a multistage process but I’ll have it done in a week. I am blocked there by the phone’s desire to phone home to the mothership and ask for permission. Now you know why that crap needs flashing…
Trying to stop this from being me rambling. I instead want this to be a diary of what I have created. I am still doing a lot, I just am not consistently focusing on doing things on a computer. I can change that and record when I am doing things elsewhere and in meatspace and to reflect on that because I think I am still doing seemingly interesting things to me that I probably should log. I am going to focus on trying to at least churn out a short post from my phone if need be each day reflecting on what and why I created or made something. I think focusing on creation instead of consumption is still a noble endeavour and recording it is a way of me ensuring I actually do something each and every day.
I often take alternative approaches to getting things working. Things break and I am a tinkerer by nature, or things don’t work as originally intended. I’m still on leave so spenind more time out and about than committing code but at the end of the day I still want to consume some media sometimes (that said, I am trying to consume less and produce more). Chromecasts seem to fight with hotel wifi networks that require silly unencrypted sign-in screens. This is a pain but not impossible to workaround with tethering and multiple networks and whatnot. That is what lead me to buying a $15 HDMI 1.5m HDMI cable. What a complete waste of money.
I missed a few days of posts. I’ve been travelling and outside of internet range for a while so I haven’t legimately been able to commit anything.
I’ve seen or heard at least 4 people with that song stuck in their head today.
I had a pretty quiet weekend. Played games, played with my spawnlings and started my new year fitness and diet regimen. What I didn’t do was write any code. I got pretty grumpy with it after Saturday morning when my cluster collapsed on AWS so lost the will to do much on a computer after that (it cost me about 8 hours of processing time and some handholding of the code). Still not pleased with it and also not pleased that AWS doesn’t want to start my jobs again right now for unexplained, shit UI reasons but what can you do?
I’ll be adding some new gists and repos soon. I have been doing some things but not yet enough to fold into a single commit.
